Improvement Works Announced for La Concepción Dam Serving Marbella

The Andalusian Government has announced improvement works for the La Concepción reservoir, which supplies water to Marbella. The focus of the project is to increase the capacity of the intake points to extract water at greater depths. An investment of just over one million euros has been announced for this purpose.

Optimization and Improvement of the Reservoir Facilities

The Government Council has acknowledged the boost in the execution of the works that will optimize and improve the facilities of the dead reservoir of the La Concepción dam. The dead reservoir is the part that the intake points no longer reach and cannot be used to extract water.

Key Action to Increase Water Supply Guarantee

This action is highlighted as key to increasing the water supply guarantee to the Western Costa del Sol region, one of the areas most affected by drought in Andalusia. The estimated investment for this action amounts to almost 1.1 million euros and has a four-month execution period for its completion. The main objective of these works is to increase the capacity of the intake points to extract water at greater depths.

Guaranteeing Increased Reserves and Maximum Water Quality

The aim is to guarantee both the increase in reserves and the maximum quality of water to the municipalities that are supplied from this reservoir, with a population exceeding 500,000 inhabitants. The original pumping system, dating from 1970, has become obsolete and does not allow sufficient input to guarantee the necessary water supply currently.

Replacement of Asbestos Cement Pipe and Installation of Pumping Equipment

Along with this action, the asbestos cement pipe will be replaced with a carbon steel one and pumping equipment will be installed in the damping water basin below. This will allow simultaneous pumping with the upstream wall pumps, capable of supplying a flow of 400 liters per second up to the mouth of the intermediate intake.
