Internal Church Event and Threat of Rain Cancels Procession
The internal act in the church, singing “Pescador de Hombres” before the throne, was the only event that took place as the Brotherhood of La Pollinica de Marbella was unable to hold its procession this Palm Sunday due to the threat of rain. This is an occurrence that hasn’t happened since Easter 2013, the last time the parade was cancelled. The thrones remained in the Church of the Incarnation, where an emotional event filled with tears took place.
Decision to Cancel the Procession
In the early afternoon, the Governing Board announced their decision, taken “with great sadness and regret”, to cancel the Penitential Station due to poor weather conditions. The brotherhood issued a statement saying, “We must learn from all moments in life, especially the bad ones, but we must overcome them with Mercy, Peace, and Hope.”
Yellow Alert for Storms
The decision seemed very logical as a yellow alert for storms was activated just at the time of departure, 5:00 PM. In the end, the decision was completely correct, as it started to rain over the city at 6:00 PM, along with mud from the African dust haze.
Internal Acts in the Church of The Incarnation
As a result, the brotherhood chose to organize internal acts in the Church of The Incarnation, which was open to the public until it reached its capacity. In the temple, the usual firefighter’s helmet was placed next to the Lord of Mercy, and a ribbon of the Virgin of Carmen was placed on the bell of the Virgin of Peace and Hope. Bell ringing was performed by Enrique Haro Cantos, Antonio Caracuel, and Francisco Gil.
Emotional Overflow in the Church
The thrones were swayed in the central aisle of the church and the song “Pescador de hombres” was sung with the accompaniment of the Musical Group Our Father Jesus Nazarene of Villanueva del Arzobispo (Jaén). Emotion overflowed among the brothers and sisters during this difficult moment, as they could not walk the streets, with many tears shed.
The Throne of the Virgin of Peace and Hope
The throne of the Virgin of Peace and Hope remained in the Church of the Incarnation. The thrones were displayed in solemn veneration until 9:00 PM, the time when the enclosure was scheduled. This is the first time in 11 years that the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus of Mercy entering Jerusalem and Most Holy Mary of Hope has not held a procession.
Easter 2013 and the Chapel of San Juan de Dios
On Easter 2013, also on March 24th like today, they could not go out and then they stayed in the Chapel of San Juan de Dios. Since 2022, this brotherhood begins its procession from the Church of the Incarnation.
