Return to the Olive Press
After a brief hiatus, I am back to the Olive Press. The festive season, New Year celebrations, and a mid-January birthday kept me away from my writing duties. My struggle with bureaucracy also played a part in my absence.
The Bureaucratic Maze
I won’t bore you with the intricate and sometimes confusing details of my battle with bureaucracy. However, I will share a humorous observation. If you ever find yourself lost, just let the officials at Hacienda know. No matter where you are, even if you’re deep in the Amazon, they’ll find you in no time.
Age is Just a Number
As I’ve entered my mid-fifties, I’ve found a unique way to cope with aging. Whenever someone asks my age, I tell them I’m the same as the speed limit in the US, which is 55. In urban zones, however, my age conveniently drops to 30.
Christmas Breathalyser Tests
During the festive season, breathalyser tests are more frequent. After my celebrations in Marbella, I encountered an alcohol checkpoint at 2.30am. The officer, noticing my accent, asked me to take a breathalyser test. Little did he know, coffee is my only beverage of choice these days. As I drove away, I could see him in disbelief, shaking his head and inspecting the breathalyser.
English in Marbella
The officer’s reaction was priceless. He seemed to be thinking, ‘An Englishman in Marbella at 2am and under the alcohol limit?’ It was a moment that added a touch of humor to my otherwise routine encounter with the law.
More Adventures Await
As I continue my journey, I look forward to sharing more of my adventures and misadventures with you. Whether it’s dealing with bureaucracy or navigating the social scene in Marbella, there’s always a story to tell.
