Salary Parity Achieved for 2,000 Staff at Hospital Costa del Sol
Approximately 2,000 employees at Hospital Costa del Sol in Marbella, along with those at the smaller public hospital centers in Benalmádena and Estepona, and the CARE treatment center in Las Lagunas, Mijas Costa, will finally see their salaries aligned with those of the rest of the SAS Andalusian health service starting from January.
Ending Salary Discrepancies in Costa del Sol Centres
Until now, medical professionals and administrative staff performing the same roles in these Costa del Sol centers have been receiving different salaries compared to their counterparts in other local hospitals. These hospital centers were previously part of a separate, quasi-independent public entity, distinct from the main health service.
Integration of Costa del Sol Hospital into Main Health Service
This separate arrangement was terminated in late 2021, and the Costa del Sol hospital, which marks its 30th anniversary today (29 December), was integrated with the rest of the service. However, it has taken until now to finalize all the legal procedures to standardize all the contracts and terms and conditions with other hospital centres in the region.
Staff Protests Over Delayed Salary Alignment
The delay in achieving salary parity has been a cause of protest among the staff. Hospital Costa del Sol, which opened its doors on 29 December 1992, serves municipalities from Manilva to Fuengirola. Since 2022, Benalmádena has been under the jurisdiction of Malaga’s Virgen de la Victoria hospital.
