Marbella Waiter Invents Mobile Charging System for Restaurant Tables

In a bid to declutter dining tables, a waiter in Marbella has come up with an innovative solution. Esteban Romero, a 36-year-old waiter who has spent a decade serving at prestigious restaurants on Spain’s Costa del Sol, has invented a system to charge mobile phones at tables.

From Frustration to Innovation

Romero’s frustration with customers who cluttered up the table with items such as mobile phones, cigarette packets, and wallets led him to devise a creative solution. His invention is a small tray that can be clamped underneath the table. It features two mobile phone charging points and space to store items that would otherwise clutter the table.

Collaboration Across Continents

To bring his idea to life, Romero collaborated with an engineer in Sri Lanka. A plastics company in Shanghai then delivered a mould of the design. The result is a practical and innovative solution to a common problem in restaurants.

Introducing the ‘Top Charger’

Romero’s invention, aptly named the ‘Top Charger’, was first introduced at the upscale Nobu restaurant at the Puerto Romano hotel in Marbella. The remaining stock was quickly snapped up by British businessmen who Romero showed his invention to while working in Antigua and Barbados.

Investment and Future Plans

The endorsement from the British businessmen made Romero’s investment worthwhile. He had sold his car and lived on a strict budget to make his invention a reality. His future plan is to hire salesmen to demonstrate the product to hospitality businesses in the USA and Australia, where it has already gained some traction.
