Four Suspects Face Life Imprisonment for 2018 Execution-Style Murder
Four individuals are potentially facing life sentences for their involvement in the brutal 2018 murder of a man, which took place in front of his family and friends. The victim, David Avila, also known as Maradona, was killed shortly after leaving a church service on May 12. The police suspect that the murder was related to drug activities.
Details of the Brutal Murder
Avila, a 36-year-old businessman, was shot at least five times by an assailant dressed in black and wearing a motorcycle helmet. The attack occurred as Avila was getting into his car, with his wife and two children also present at the scene. The shots fired resulted in Avila’s immediate death. The businessman, who owned Heaven Beach Club and a gym, both of which had burned down prior to his death, was shot three times in the head, once in the chest, and once in the shoulder.
Additional Charges for the Accused
The four accused individuals are also facing trial for a second murder that took place three months later. The second victim, Sofian Ahmed Barrak, known as ‘el Zocato’, was shot and killed outside his home in an Estepona suburb in the early hours of August 20. The main defendant is alleged to have shot Barrak nine times from close range with a nine-millimetre automatic pistol, killing him instantly. The shooter then fled the scene on a motorcycle.
Attempted Apprehension and Further Charges
Two security guards at a nearby checkpoint attempted to apprehend the shooter after hearing the gunshots. However, the shooter managed to escape after threatening the guards with his pistol. In addition to the murder charges, the four defendants are also charged with illegal possession of weapons. If found guilty, they could face an additional two years on top of their life sentences, with the possibility of parole.
Accomplices Also Face Jail Time
Four other individuals, alleged to be accomplices in the murders, are also potentially facing significant jail time. If convicted, they could each serve up to 12 years in prison for their involvement in the crimes.
