PP Officials Support Marbella Mayor Amidst Scandal
This Saturday in Marbella, Patricia Navarro, Ángeles Muñoz, and Elías Bendodo, the Deputy Secretary of Autonomous and Municipal Policy of the People’s Party (PP), expressed their support for the city’s mayor, Ángeles Muñoz. This comes just ten days after the Anti-Drug Prosecutor’s Office requested a 22-year prison sentence for the mayor’s stepson and implicated her late husband in several drug money laundering operations.
Accusations of Corruption Against the Government
Without any shame, Bendodo launched accusations of corruption against the government from Marbella. He did this alongside the mayor of Marbella, who also received support from the provincial president of the PP, Patricia Navarro.
Charges Against Mayor’s Family
It’s been only ten days since it was revealed that the Anti-Drug Prosecutor’s Office is seeking a 22-year prison sentence for Muñoz’s stepson for drug trafficking, money laundering, and bribery. The late husband of the mayor, who is also the father of the accused, is implicated in several drug money laundering operations amounting to over six million euros.
Local Police Officer Also Involved
A local police officer, who served as Ángeles Muñoz’s escort for nine years, is also being prosecuted for providing confidential information to drug traffickers. Despite the seriousness of the accusations and the evident links of the Swedish plot with the Marbella City Council, the national PP has not hesitated to support the mayor of Marbella.
Continuing the Campaign for Coastal Train
Bendodo arrived this Saturday to continue the campaign for the coastal train, a project that was not completed by Rajoy in his seven years as head of the government. They are also demanding the removal of the AP-7 toll, something that the PP never did during that period.
Urgent Need for Train and Toll Suspension
The Deputy Secretary of Autonomous and Municipal Policy stressed the “urgent” need to work once and for all for the train and, in the meantime, the government should temporarily suspend the AP-7 toll “because the alternative to not taking measures is collapse”. Muñoz has asked the government to liberalize the toll highway until the coastal train project is realized “as it is an essential initiative due to the collapse of the A-7 highway”.
Accusations Against Pedro Sánchez
Nationally, Bendodo did not hesitate to point to Pedro Sánchez as the “leader of the criminal organization of the Ábalos plot”.
PSOE Calls for Explanation
José Bernal, the Secretary of Organization of the PSOE of Málaga, has urged the PP to explain if the photo with Ángeles Muñoz means that they “legitimize the situation of the mayor of Marbella and her family environment investigated for money laundering”. He expressed regret that the citizens of Marbella and San Pedro “have to a PP that no longer hides in taking a photo next to a person (Ángeles Muñoz) who appears in the summary for her emails, phone calls, or municipal concessions of COVID tests and other services to people now investigated as drug trafficking bosses”.
Upcoming Trial
With the trial of Muñoz’s family environment approaching, Bernal reiterated that the mayor of Marbella “has to give many explanations, and those same explanations must be given by Bendodo and Navarro by publicly supporting her today”.
