Spanish Government Allocates 13.1 Million Euros to Combat Noise Pollution Near Marbella
Residents residing near the Marbella section of the AP-7 motorway are on the verge of getting relief from noise pollution. The Spanish government has recently awarded a contract worth 13.1 million euros. The contract is aimed at reducing the amount of road noise, thereby improving the quality of life for the local residents.
Details of the Noise Reduction Plan
The noise reduction work forms part of the Ministry of Transport’s action plan against traffic noise. The plan targets the section between kilometres 175.347 and 183.459. The primary objective is to decrease noise levels by installing 28 sound-proofing screens. These screens, with a total length of approximately 6,612 metres, will range in height from 2.5 to 4.5 metres.
Sound-Proofing Screens: Aesthetic and Functional
The sound-proofing screens will be covered with ivy to minimize their visual impact on the surrounding environment. The placement of these screens will be determined by existing signage, walls, electrical networks, and the terrain. Most of the screens will be positioned away from the AP-7 on walls or at the head of the cut slope. This strategic placement is intended to reduce the impact on the motorway and achieve a higher level of noise reduction.
Funding for the Noise Reduction Project
The noise reduction project is funded through the government’s recovery, transformation and resilience plan. This plan has allocated a total of 302 million euros for sustainability, energy efficiency and anti-noise measures on roads. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to improving the living conditions of its citizens and promoting environmental sustainability.
