Marbella to Become the National Paradise for Video Games This Weekend
Marbella is gearing up to become the gaming capital this weekend. The Adolfo Suárez Congress Palace will host the “Marbella Gam1ng Days”, an event where players and fans can enjoy live esports competitions, meet influencers, and attend talks with video game industry professionals.
Over 80 Students to Compete in Esports
More than 80 students from all over Spain will arrive in Marbella in the coming days to become the best esports players in the academic environment. The “Marbella Gam1ng Days”, which will take place between Friday 19 and Sunday 21 April, will host the National Grand Final of University Esports and Junior Esports, the main educational and technological projects related to video games in our country.
Official Presentation of the Event
The official presentation of the event took place this Wednesday at the Adolfo Suárez Congress Palace. Aitor Parra, responsible for University Esports and Junior Esports in Spain, was present at the event. He stated that students from different universities and educational centers throughout Spain will compete in Marbella to become champions. He added that they will participate in an experience that is not only competitive but also educational and recreational.
Growth of the Video Game Industry
Video games are one of the fastest-growing sectors of the entertainment industry, with revenues surpassing those of music and cinema. According to the Spanish Video Game Association (AEVI), Spain is one of the most mature markets in Europe in the gaming environment. It has the highest number of paying esports consumers on the continent, with a young audience that reached 2.9 million enthusiasts in 2022. The gaming industry has also experienced steady job growth, positioning video games as a powerful source of youth employment: in 2022, more than 1,500 job offers were created, where 40% of the employees were under 30 years old.
University Esports and Junior Esports
University Esports is the largest esports and gaming project in the university environment globally. Organized by GGTech Entertainment, it provides a competitive environment accessible to all university students and offers specialized training in the esports and video games sector, showcasing the wide range of job opportunities in the video game industry. Junior Esports is an educational and technological project, also organized by GGTech Entertainment, focused on gaming and based on a system of 16 fundamental values. The project aims to promote education, learning, and personal development both inside and outside the classroom.
Finalist Teams in the National Grand Final of University Esports
In the National Grand Final of University Esports, teams will compete for the championship title in four video games: ‘League of Legends’, ‘Valorant’, ‘Teamfight Tactics’, and ‘Rocket League’. The finalists of Junior Esports will compete to become the winners of the 2023/24 season in the following titles: ‘League of Legends’, ‘Brawl Stars’, and ‘Rocket League’.
