Thrones Displayed Solely at Church Square on Good Friday
The thrones were only displayed at the Church Square this Good Friday. Out of the five processions planned for the Holy Week in San Pedro Alcántara, three managed to proceed despite the constant threat of rain. However, this Good Friday, it was no longer possible and the parade of the Yacente and the Soledad was cancelled. There were no guarantees that the new route through the Catalanes could be completed.
Preparations for the Good Friday Procession
Everything was ready at the Church Square of San Pedro Alcántara to start the Good Friday procession, which was scheduled to start at 20:00 hours. The afternoon had been sunny and seemed to invite everyone to enjoy the parade in the streets, but it did not turn out that way.
Decision to Cancel the Yacente and Soledad Parade
The Government Board met to analyze the weather situation and finally decided that the Yacente and the Soledad would not proceed. The forecast at that time was for rain around 21:30 hours, which even came earlier, thus the cancellation was justified.
Thrones Displayed in the Square to the Sound of Processional Marches
The decision was made to take the thrones out of the tents and sway them in the square to the sound of processional marches so that, at least, the public could see them. The musical accompaniment was provided by the “San Isidro Labrador” Association from Churriana.
Religious Celebrations to Conclude with the Resurrected Procession
The religious celebrations will conclude next Sunday with the procession of the Resurrected, scheduled for 12:00 hours. Rain is also forecast for that last day, so the parade is currently up in the air.
Holy Week in San Pedro Alcántara
The Holy Week in San Pedro Alcántara features five processions and seven thrones in the streets. It is unique in that all the parades are organized by the only brotherhood, that of Our Father Jesus Nazarene and Most Holy Mary of Solitude. So far, only one has been cancelled due to rain, that of this Good Friday.
