Second Kidnapping in a Week Shocks Costa del Sol
In less than a week, a second kidnapping has been reported on the Costa del Sol. The incident occurred in Marbella on Monday, 27 January 2025. The victim, a businessman, was ambushed in a secluded part of the town. The kidnappers forced him into a car, threatened him with a gun, and physically assaulted him with the aim of robbing his home. After approximately 20 minutes, the victim was released. The National Police have taken over the investigation, which bears a striking resemblance to the kidnapping of another man in Sabinillas on 23 January.
Details of the Kidnapping Incident
Around 7pm on 27 January, the victim, who owns a warehouse in the La Campana industrial area, was confronted by the alleged kidnappers. They forced him into a vehicle, held him at gunpoint, and beat him. The kidnappers then drove to the victim’s home with the intention of robbing it. The businessman was released in his home, where he was able to contact emergency services, despite being disoriented and in shock. The National Police are working to uncover the details of the incident and apprehend the culprits. No arrests have been made so far.
Previous Kidnapping Incident and Investigation
On Thursday, 23 January, the police were alerted to another kidnapping incident involving a man on the Sabinillas promenade. A photograph taken by the victim of a steering wheel with the vehicle brand’s logo proved crucial in resolving the case. Within 16 hours, the police were able to locate and free the victim and arrest the four suspects. The kidnappers had held the victim at gunpoint and questioned him about a third party who had allegedly defrauded them of 30,000 euros.
Kidnapping Rates in Malaga Province
Despite the recent incidents, it’s important to note that kidnapping is the crime category that saw the most significant decrease in Malaga province last year. According to the latest crime statistics from Spain’s Ministry of the Interior, there were four registered cases between January and September 2024, compared to 16 during the same period in 2023.
