Man Arrested for Alleged Arson at Puerto Banús Beach Bar
A man has been apprehended by the Marbella Local Police on suspicion of setting a beach bar and restaurant in Puerto Banús ablaze on Sunday, 5 January. The town hall reported that the swift response of the fire brigade allowed the fire to be put out promptly. However, the site suffered significant damage due to the wooden structure of the ‘chiringuito’.
Firefighters and Police Respond to Early Morning Blaze
The fire incident occurred at approximately 8.50am at the beach bar located on the Alberto Vidiella Tudores promenade. Around ten firefighters and six vehicles were dispatched in response to the alarm. Local Police units were also present at the scene, securing the area and collecting information from witnesses.
Suspect Identified and Apprehended
Police officers identified a man who fit the description provided by a witness. The alleged arsonist was reported to be wearing a blue coat and accompanied by a dog. The man had discarded his jacket, and when questioned, he stated that he had disposed of it in a bin due to it being torn. The suspect is a 36-year-old male, originally from Zamora and currently residing in the El Ángel area in Nueva Andalucía.
Security Footage Confirms Suspect’s Identity
The manager of the beach bar affected by the fire supplied the police with security camera footage from the establishment prior to the incident. The footage confirmed that the man identified by the police was the same individual captured on camera. Following this confirmation, the man was arrested and transported to a National Police station for further questioning.
