New Skatepark Opens in Marbella’s La Florida Area
A new skatepark has been unveiled in the La Florida area of Marbella. This is the third skatepark in the municipality, with the latest one being inaugurated on Wednesday in the Trapiche Norte area. Despite the addition of these facilities, Marbella still lacks an athletics track and a certified swimming pool.
Funding for the Skatepark
The skatepark, which was budgeted by the City Council since 2021, was primarily funded by the Provincial Council of Malaga. In March last year, just before the elections, Mayor Ángeles Muñoz announced the construction of a new skatepark, promising it would be ready by the end of the year.
Features of the New Facility
The facility, which was finally inaugurated in April, spans 6,600 square meters in the La Florida area, in the Trapiche Norte, with three areas for sports practice and a fourth for recreation. The City Council presents the skatepark as “the largest free-to-use in Andalusia and probably one of the best in Spain”. It includes space for skateboarding, BMX, rollerblading, and scootering.
Other Skateparks in the Municipality
This is the third such area in the municipality, following the one in San Pedro Alcántara, which is 3,400 square meters, and the recent one in Bello Horizonte, which is 600 square meters. Meanwhile, there is still no certified athletics track or swimming pool, among other deficiencies in sports facilities.
Opening Hours of the Skatepark
The skatepark is open from Monday to Thursday and on Sundays from 09:00 to 22:00, and on Fridays and Saturdays, from 09:00 to 23:00 in winter (from October 1 to May 31). In summer, from June 1 to September 30, it will be open from 9:00 to 24:00 every day.
Project Details and Funding
The project was drafted by Huete Architects and the works were awarded to the company Construcciones Glesa for 909,291.26 euros. Of this amount, more than 700,000 euros were contributed by the Provincial Council, an institution that was not mentioned at the inauguration. Despite being budgeted by the City Council since 2021, the project was never realized until now.
