Police Seize Counterfeit Luxury Goods in Marbella
Images of the items seized by the National Police in Marbella have been released. The National Police have confiscated 804 counterfeit leather goods, which were on sale in a physical store in Marbella. These items were found to be reproducing the distinctive signs of officially registered luxury brands.
Two Arrested in Connection with Counterfeit Goods
Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the counterfeit goods – a woman who ran the aforementioned business, and a man in Cadiz who was her supplier. Both are accused of a crime against industrial property, according to a statement released by the National Police on Tuesday.
Investigation Initiated Following Legal Complaint
The investigation was initiated following a complaint by a legal representative of several affected brands. The representative reported the illicit marketing and distribution of handbags that reproduced the distinctive signs of the brands they represented.
Counterfeit Goods Sourced from Asian Online Marketplaces
According to the investigation, the counterfeit leather goods were acquired through online sales pages belonging to the Asian market. They were then sold as genuine items in a physical store located in Marbella.
Scientific Police Confirm Counterfeit Nature of Goods
Continuing with the investigation, a forensic report from the Scientific Police confirmed the counterfeit nature of the suspected products. It was concluded that the analyzed items reproduced the registered distinctive signs of the brand owners and had different characteristics from the authentic products.
Two Suspects Arrested Following Operation
The operational phase of the investigation led to the arrest of the two suspects and a search of the male suspect’s home in La Línea de la Concepción (Cadiz). A large number of leather goods – handbags, belts, wallets, and backpacks – as well as other items bearing the distinctive signs of prestigious brands were seized.
Inspection of Marbella Store Reveals More Counterfeit Goods
Similarly, an inspection was carried out at the store run by the female suspect in Marbella. A large number of leather goods and other items bearing the distinctive signs of prestigious brands were also seized from the store, which were being sold directly to the public.
