Isabel Pérez Calls for Completion of Youth Rental Apartments Near Former Language School
Isabel Pérez, the socialist spokesperson in the City Council and national deputy, has urged the mayor to “finish once and for all” the 18 youth rental apartments being built in the building of the former official language school in Huerta de los Cristale. She reminded that these apartments have 25% funding from the Spanish Government.
Government’s Contribution to the Project
The councilor recalled that this is an initiative in which the government of Pedro Sánchez is contributing 25% of the budget. The agreement was signed in November 2020 along with other administrations to make these apartments possible. “Three and a half years have passed and we are still waiting, given the need for affordable housing in the municipality,” she pointed out.
Expected Completion Date
She added that the latest deadline offered by the mayor is that the apartments would be ready by the end of 2024. “We ask that this work be finished once and for all and that more public housing be built, also for rent, not only for purchase, for both young people and those who need it,” she insisted.
Call for Transparency
She also demanded “maximum transparency” so that, once the apartments are ready, a “clear and fair” scoring system is established to determine how young people can access them. She emphasized the importance of clarity on aspects such as the monthly price, about which “different amounts have already been given.”
Criticism of the Mayor’s Housing Policy
Isabel Pérez has again asked the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, to make “a firm commitment to public housing,” criticizing her policy in this area during her 15 years as head of the City Council as “absolutely disastrous.” “It’s not an opinion, the data is eloquent,” she explained, detailing that to date, the mayor has only managed to launch 107 protected homes in the municipality, a figure that “causes embarrassment,” especially for someone who “prides herself on management.” She accused the mayor of being more interested in media announcements, propaganda, and housing lottery photos, and then not caring if the winners can afford the exorbitant prices resulting from the “constant mistake” of selling land for promotions instead of ceding it “as we have always maintained from the PSOE.”
