Newsweek and Statista Release Annual Ranking of Spain’s Top 100 Hospitals
The esteemed magazine ‘Newsweek’, in collaboration with data portal ‘Statista’, has released its annual ranking of the top 100 hospitals in Spain. The list includes both public and private institutions. The Costa del Sol University Hospital has slipped in the rankings and now stands at tenth place among Andalusian hospitals.
World’s Best Hospitals 2024 Dominated by US Institutions
The annual ranking of the world’s best hospitals for 2024 is led by institutions from the United States. The highest-ranking Spanish hospital is Madrid’s Hospital de la Paz, which holds the 46th position. ‘Newsweek’ also provides customized rankings for about 40 countries, including Spain.
Twelve Andalusian Public Hospitals Among Spain’s Top 100
Among the top 100 national hospital centers, twelve public hospitals from Andalusia have made the list, most of which have improved their ranking from the previous year. One of these is the Costa del Sol University Hospital in Marbella, which has unfortunately dropped nine places.
Costa del Sol University Hospital Drops in Rankings
This year, the Costa del Sol University Hospital ranks 66th, a drop from its 57th position in 2023. Among Andalusian hospitals, it holds the tenth position, but is the eighth among those with public management.
Top Andalusian Public Hospital and Malaga’s Best
The top public hospital in Andalusia is the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital in Seville, which has moved up one place from 11th to 10th. The top hospital in the province of Malaga is the Regional University Hospital of Malaga, which has climbed four places from 39th to 35th. The Virgen de la Victoria Hospital in Malaga ranks 64th, two places above the Costa del Sol, and is third among public hospitals in Malaga.
Ranking Methodology and Costa del Sol’s Reputation
The ranking is based on a survey of healthcare professionals and discharged patients, as well as factors such as hygiene and doctor-patient relationship. It’s worth noting that the Costa del Sol Hospital was removed from the top 100 Spanish hospitals list by the Healthcare Reputation Monitor (MRS) at the end of last year. There have been ongoing complaints from unions about staff shortages and the hospital’s deteriorating condition.
