Marpoética Festival Inauguration Held in Marbella
The inaugural event of the Marpoética festival took place on Thursday morning in Marbella. Over 300 preschool and primary school students from nine educational centers in Marbella participated in the launch of the seventh edition of the Marpoética festival.
Students Engage in Poetry Reading
The event, held in front of the Hospitalillo, a usual venue in previous editions, involved the reading of poems written by the students themselves. The literary event, which was met with great enthusiasm, will continue for the next 15 days. Renowned poets such as Antonio Gamoneda, a Cervantes Prize winner, and well-known musicians like Miguel Poveda and Santiago Auserón, among others, will be in attendance.
‘Raising the Verse’ Activity
The students took part in an activity titled ‘Raising the Verse’ in the Practicante Manuel Cantos square, where they read their own original poems. The participating students hailed from Santa Teresa, Bocanegra, Gil Muñiz, Mario Vargas Llosa, José Banús, Miguel de Cervantes, Las Albarizas, Valdeolletas, and Nuestra Señora del Carmen schools.
Importance of Student Participation
Carmen Díaz, the Director General of Culture, explained that the festival’s inauguration is always led by students from educational centers, highlighting the importance given to their formative role and the prominence they are intended to have. She also thanked the various involved schools and their faculty, and noted that this activity, symbolized by the bow tie logo of Marpoética, has been a tradition since the festival’s first edition.
Objectives of the Festival
Díaz emphasized that one of the main goals of the festival is to aid in the understanding and appreciation of poetry and poetic language, which she described as encompassing thought, language, imagery, and music. She expressed the desire for students to realize the power of words.
Upcoming Event
On Friday at 12:00 PM, a simultaneous reading of Antonio Gamoneda’s poem ‘I will be in your thoughts’ will take place, to be recited in unison by over 1,500 students from the city’s secondary and baccalaureate centers.
