Marbella City Council’s Regular April Meeting

The Marbella City Council held its regular meeting for the month of April on Friday, May 10th. The meeting was delayed due to changes being made to the electronic platform used by the council.

Proposal to Take Over A-7 Highway Section

During the meeting, the council approved a proposal to request the government to hand over the section of the A-7 highway that runs through the municipal area. This proposal was put forward by the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) with the aim of taking action to prevent traffic jams.

Approval of New Beach Regulation Ordinance

The council also gave initial approval to a new ordinance that will regulate the beaches. The ordinance will now go through a period of public exposure and allegations before it is brought back to the council for final approval.

Urban Planning Issues and Motions

The meeting also addressed a couple of urban planning issues, which were voted on without further explanation. The bulk of the meeting was focused on the motions presented by the four municipal groups that make up the Corporation.

PSOE’s Proposal for Highway Handover

Among these motions, a proposal from the PSOE was approved to request the government to hand over the sections of the A-7 highway that run through the municipal area to the city council. The aim is for the municipality to assume the competencies to carry out necessary interventions and prevent the collapse of the road.

Opposition to the Proposal

However, Felix Romero, a councilor from the People’s Party (PP), stated that this handover would not solve the problem, even though the council’s management is much more efficient. He argued that the only solution is to free up the highway to handle excess traffic.

Other Motions and Final Approvals

The council also unanimously approved a motion from Vox to install a plaque in memory of Rogelio Vigil de Quiñones, one of the Last of the Philippines, in the park that bears his name. Two proposals from OSP were also approved, one to improve Volga Street and another for a parking lot on Mainake Street. Finally, the council definitively approved the file for the award of Honorary Citizens, which will be presented on Saturday, May 11th.
