The Marbella City Council has allocated over 180,000 euros, a slightly lower amount than last year, for the carnival celebrations. The largest portion has been allocated for musical performances, especially for groups, including those from Cadiz. Budget has also been allocated for parades and children’s activities.
Post-Pandemic Carnival Recovery
After the pandemic years, the carnival returned to normal in 2023, but it is the current year when all activities have fully resumed, including the group competition. According to Marbella24horas, the Marbella City Council has spent over 180,000 euros on various organized events. This is slightly less than the 200,000 euros spent last year, which was also an election year.
Contracts and Prizes for Carnival 2024
This media outlet has found three contracts that, combined with the prizes for the costume contests, amount to 182,512.51 euros for Carnival 2024. The most significant portion, 109,943 euros, goes to the performances of carnival groups, both local and those from Cadiz or Malaga.
Performance Costs and Local Group Expenses
This is a contract signed with the Cadiz company Eternidad Eventos S.L. The most significant cost was the performance of the comparsa of Martínez Ares “La oveja negra”, this year’s winner in Cadiz, with 11,495 euros. The anthology “La Cuadrilla”, from the Cadiz comparsa Los Carapapas, which performed at the proclamation, cost 9,317.00 euros. The chirigota of the Molinas ‘Los Chabolis’, which was seen in San Pedro Alcántara, cost 9,075 euros. According to this documentation, each local group cost 3,630 euros through the aforementioned company.
Allocation for Parades and Children’s Parties
The second most important contract after the groups is allocated to parades with 39,423.49 euros, while 24,746 euros were allocated to children’s parties. In addition, there are prizes for the Marbella (4,200 euros) and San Pedro Alcántara (4,200 euros) costume contests, through subsidies.
