Details of the Tragic Incident
The deadly accident took place around 6 pm on Saturday, 24th August, off the Marbella coast. Multiple witnesses alerted the 112 Andalucía emergency services about the incident, with some reporting that the boat was navigating recklessly near the buoy area where rental jet skis were stationed.
Victim Left Unconscious After Collision
Following the crash, the jet ski driver was found unconscious and floating in the water. Despite immediate rescue and attempts at cardiopulmonary resuscitation on dry land, the 26-year-old North African German national could not be saved.

The boat’s skipper, a 34-year-old German national, was escorted to the Marbella port where he was tested for alcohol and drugs by local police. The man tested positive for alcohol, with a breathalyzer reading exceeding the legal limit, and two narcotics were detected in his system, pending laboratory confirmation.
Previous Fatal Jet Ski Accidents on the Costa
This incident marks the second fatal jet ski accident in Marbella this summer. Three weeks prior, a minor lost his life when a jet ski, ridden with his father, capsized on him. The family, who were vacationing on the Costa del Sol, were out for a beach day when the tragedy occurred.
Other Fatal Accidents in the Past Year
In the past year, two other fatal jet ski accidents have occurred on the Malaga coast. One incident took place on 16th July last year during the Virgen del Carmen sea festivities, where a 32-year-old woman died from severe injuries after falling off a watercraft. Shortly after, on 9th August 2023, a 32-year-old French man lost his life in another jet ski accident in Fuengirola.
