Marbella: A Second Home to Jorge Hinojosa
Jorge Hinojosa, a native of Madrid, has always considered Marbella as his second home. His family has been visiting the city every August since the 1980s to escape Madrid’s heat. The love affair with Marbella began when Jorge’s father was captivated by the city’s exceptional gastronomy, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant nightlife.
Childhood Memories in Marbella
Jorge’s earliest memories of Marbella date back to when he was just four years old. He recalls having lunch at a chiringuito named Pepe el Piloto after spending the morning at the beach. He also fondly remembers the early mornings at Churreria Ramon, in Plaza de Los Naranjos, where his family would enjoy churros and porras.
Family Outings to Puerto Banus
As a child, Jorge particularly enjoyed visiting Puerto Banus to have ice cream and marvel at the mega yachts. However, these visits were often preceded by lengthy shopping trips at El Corte Ingles, where his mother would shop for new outfits.
Teenage Years in Marbella
During his teenage years, Jorge spent the first half of August with his father’s family and his uncle, who was a regular at Taberna Gaspar. He would eat there almost every day, praising its tortillas and paella. One summer, Jorge had the opportunity to play host to one of his best friends, Ana, and her family. Ana was captivated by Marbella’s beauty and also fell in love with the city.
Returning to Marbella
After working at EFE in London and pursuing his Masters degree at City University, Jorge has returned to Marbella full time, thanks to his new job at the Olive Press. Last summer, he spent time with friends at the Starlite Festival, dined at Bar Altamirano, and enjoyed drinks at Trocadero Playa. His friends, who were visiting the city for the first time, enjoyed it so much that they plan to return this summer.
Marbella: A Dream Come True
Despite enjoying his time studying and working in London, Jorge is thrilled to be back in Marbella, surrounded by mountains and the sea. He considers it a dream come true to return to a place he has been fortunate to know all his life.
