Parasurfer Sarah Almagro Receives Andalusia Medal from Jesús Aguirre
Parasurfer Sarah Almagro Vallejo from Marbella has been awarded the Andalusia Sports Medal 2024. The prestigious award was presented to her by Jesús Aguirre, the President of the Andalusian Parliament, during an official ceremony held at the Maestranza Theatre in Seville.
World, European, and Spanish Champion Honored on Andalusia Day
The award ceremony took place on February 28, in celebration of Andalusia Day. Last year, Sarah was crowned the world, European, and Spanish champion. The event, hosted by Eva González, was held at the Maestranza Theatre in Seville throughout the morning.
Marbella Represented by Sarah Almagro Vallejo
Marbella was represented by Sarah Almagro Vallejo, who received the Andalusia Sports Medal 2024. This is a well-deserved award after a year in which she became the world, European, and Spanish champion in adaptive surfing.
Sarah’s Story of Overcoming Adversity
Sarah was highlighted as an “example of strength and ability”. A video was shown where Sarah shared her story of overcoming adversity after undergoing amputation of her hands and feet. “The sea treats everyone equally,” she said in the video, as there were no speeches from the awardees during the event.
Andalusia Sports Medal for Her Impeccable Professional Career
The Andalusia Sports Medal was awarded to her “for her impeccable professional career corroborated by great triumphs as an elite athlete”. The award was presented by Jesús Aguirre, the President of the Andalusian Parliament, to the applause of the entire audience.
Sarah Almagro’s Excellent Triple Win in 2023
Sarah Almagro achieved an excellent triple win in 2023 as the Spanish, European, and World Champion in Adaptive Surfing. After winning silver and bronze in the previous two years, she finally became the best in the world last November, earning a well-deserved title in the Prone 2 category. She won the gold medal at the ISA World Parasurfing Championship held in Huntington Beach, California. The Marbella native has also been the Spanish champion three times in a row (2021, 2022, and 2023) and once the European champion (2023).
