The Puerto Deportivo Virgen del Carmen de Marbella has hosted an educational and sporting day for schoolchildren, combining a guided visit with practical introductions to responsible nautical activities.

At a glance

  • Schoolchildren visited the Puerto Deportivo Virgen del Carmen de Marbella.
  • The programme covered port operations, safety and the port’s wider importance.
  • Activities introduced sailing, paddle surf, kayak and Big SUP.

A closer look at the port

Schoolchildren explored how Marbella’s marina operates and serves the community.

The session was designed to bring pupils closer to the maritime environment and help them understand how port facilities function. It also promoted responsible participation in different nautical disciplines.

During a guided tour, the students learned about berth management, port infrastructure and safety rules. The programme also addressed the port’s social, economic and environmental importance.

The activity was organised by the marina together with the Technical Guide in the Natural Environment and Leisure Time course at IES Sierra Blanca, with Nalusur involved in the programme.

From explanation to practical activity

The programme combined classroom-style guidance with introductory activities on water.

The nautical content included sailing, paddle surf and kayak. Practical sessions featured Big SUP activities and an introduction to kayaking.

Participants worked on basic paddling exercises, navigation manoeuvres and guided group routes. Students from the TEGU course at IES Sierra Blanca, in collaboration with Nalusur, helped deliver explanations and support the scheduled activities.

Why this matters in Marbella

The initiative connects local students with Marbella’s maritime setting and skills.

For residents and families in Marbella, the programme shows how the city’s marina can provide learning about both nautical practice and the wider role of port activity.

The focus on safety, responsible participation and environmental importance gives the activity a broader purpose than sports introduction alone. It also links local education with a prominent part of Marbella’s coastal setting.
