UK Fugitive Arrested in Marbella
A 29-year-old British man, who had been on the run after escaping jail in the UK, has been apprehended in Marbella. The fugitive was arrested during a routine police checkpoint on January 31, however, the details of his arrest have only recently been disclosed.
Previous Arrest for Drug Trafficking
The Policia Nacional revealed that the man had been taken into custody a few days prior in Estepona on charges of drug trafficking. The UK authorities had issued a warrant for his arrest on January 24. He had been serving a sentence for illegal possession of weapons, ammunition, and explosives.
Half-Served Sentence for Weapons Offences
The Policia Nacional indicated that the man had been sentenced to a jail term of five years and nine months. However, he had only served half of his sentence before he managed to escape from the UK.
Extradition Process Underway
No further information has been provided, except that the man, identified by the initials C.H.T.M, is currently in the custody of the National High Court in Madrid. The court is processing his extradition to the UK.
Not on Crimestoppers’ Most Wanted List
Interestingly, the arrested Brit is not a member of the latest Crimestoppers ‘Most Wanted List’ of fugitives in Spain, which was announced on January 19. However, a Crimestoppers alert was issued on January 27 for 29-year-old Alex Male, originally from Weston-super-Mare, who is wanted in the UK for drug trafficking, money laundering, and conspiring to acquire a firearm. He is believed to be hiding in the Marbella area.
