Marbella’s New Sports Stadium Design Winner Announced
The winner of the design competition for Marbella’s new multi-million pound sports stadium has been announced. The victorious design was submitted by Huete Arquitectos studio, a firm located near Marbella and Estepona. Marbella Mayor Angeles Muñoz praised the winning concept as ‘modern, sustainable and functional’. The design beat out 10 other entries to secure the top spot.
Design Criteria and Funding Questions
The competition required all designs to feature a football stadium with a capacity for 8,000 spectators. Additional facilities such as an indoor athletics track, gym, fitness room and ample car parking spaces were also stipulated. However, there are still questions surrounding the source of some of the funding for the project.
Demolition and Construction Timeline
Once the design receives full approval, the existing stadium will be demolished. This includes the removal of lighting towers and perimeter fencing, with work scheduled to begin in February 2023. The demolition process is expected to take three months, commencing in September 2023. Following this, consultations with local residents will begin, alongside the tender process for the construction work. Mayor Muñoz anticipates that construction will commence between 2023 and 2024.
Budget for the New Stadium
The budget for the new stadium is believed to be around €18 million. However, the council has not yet released full details of the budgeting for the project.
