Plans to Privatize Marbella’s Leisure Residence Continues
The Andalusian Government continues with its plans to privatize the Marbella Leisure Residence, a plan that was announced at the end of last year. The intention is to issue a 75-year demanial concession with a fee estimated between 3.5 and 4 million euros. This is all that is known at the moment about this public space.
Government Representative Speaks on the Matter
Carolina España, the Minister of Economy, Finance and European Funds, spoke about this matter on Wednesday during a forum organized by “The Opinion of Malaga”. The regional government representative argued that the Government should not be dedicated to “managing tourist villas” and reminded that these residences will be sold or put out for concession. In the case of Marbella, the plan is to issue a 75-year demanial concession with a fee estimated between 3.5 and 4 million euros. “It is one of the jewels we have in the province and a way to make good management of public money,” said España.
Previous Statements Align with Current Plans
These new statements align with those expressed last November by the Government. At that time, the intention to dispose of the six leisure residences in Andalusia was announced. The Marbella residence, which opened in 1963, is now 61 years old and its goal has been to offer affordable accommodation to different groups.
Unions Denounce Dismantling of Facilities
Unions have long been denouncing the dismantling of the facilities located in Las Chapas, where only a third of the bungalows were offered. The PSOE presented a motion last November in the plenary session of the Marbella City Council to urge the Government not to privatize the residence, but the PP voted against it, as it did in the Provincial Council.
