Marbella Town Hall Aims to Extend Marina Management Until 2051
Marbella Town Hall has announced its intention to continue operating the Virgen del Carmen marina for an additional 25 years, following the expiration of its current rights in 2026. The council has reached an agreement with the managing company’s board of directors to employ an engineering consultancy to facilitate the reapplication for the concession of the premises.
First Steps Towards Extension of Marina Management
Councillor Diego López stated that the council is committed to fulfilling all the requirements set by the Junta de Andalucía regional government to extend the marina’s management until 2051. He emphasized that this is the initial step in the process. López further explained that the procedures require meticulous and specialized work to prepare the necessary reports – primarily technical, legal, and financial – to secure this extension.
Professional Expertise Required for Extension Process
López highlighted the need for professionals with extensive experience in the field to carry out these procedures, ensuring all guarantees are met. He specified that to secure the renewal of the concession, it is crucial to undertake an ambitious project to remodel the site in collaboration with the Junta.
Plans for a Global Transformation of the Port
Despite the initial investment being around 20 percent of the economic performance of the facilities, the council intends to promote a comprehensive transformation of the port. López pointed out that sustainability works, improvements to meet the current needs of the nautical sector, an increase in parking spaces, and greater promotion of the marina are necessary.
Modernizing the Marina for the Future
The council aims to modernize and adapt the marina to meet the demands of the future. Despite many improvements in recent years, López believes that a comprehensive investment is required. The marina, which holds the Blue Flag as a guarantee of excellence in management, is considered a jewel within the city.
Meeting with the Public Ports Agency of Andalucía
Last July, Mayor Ángeles Muñoz, Councillor López, and the general director of the Public Ports Agency of Andalucía (APPA), Rafael Merino, held a meeting to discuss the extension of the marina’s management. Merino expressed his support for a significant project that will modernize and adapt the marina to the new era of the nautical sector.
