Marbella Town Hall Proposes Solutions to Parking Crisis
Marbella is grappling with a severe parking shortage, a problem that the local government is keen to address. The town hall has proposed several projects aimed at easing the parking situation. This week, the council greenlit an agreement with the regional government to create over 600 parking spaces, along with sports and social facilities, near the África hostel in the Miraflores neighbourhood.
Agreement Awaits Signature, Tender Process to Begin Soon
The agreement, which is already drafted and awaiting signature, will allow the local authority to start managing the necessary tenders for the project to kick off. The agreement involves the transfer of 8,500 square metres of sports facilities adjacent to the hostel, as well as underground space for the car park construction. The town’s mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, expressed optimism that the tender process could be launched and awarded within the year.
Two-Story Car Park and Public Facilities in the Pipeline
The project will see the construction of a two-story car park, with nearly half of the spaces designated for public parking at a cost of one euro for a 12-hour period. The car park will also have spaces for sale to local residents and spaces reserved for facility use. In addition to the car park, the surface area will feature a social facility, a sports area open to all citizens and visitors, and green spaces and recreational areas, according to Mayor Muñoz.
San Pedro Alcántara to Benefit from Parking Expansion
Mayor Muñoz also unveiled a plan for San Pedro Alcántara, which the town hall will promote over the next two years. This plan aims to increase parking availability in the area by more than 1,600 spaces.
