Record Highs in Permanent Employment in Marbella Since January 2023

The labor market in the municipality of Marbella continues to maintain a high percentage of permanent contracts. In February, a new record was set with 72% of employment contracts of this type, surpassing previous records from February, March, and May 2023, which stood at 71%.

Impact of Spain’s Labor Reform on Permanent Contracts

At the end of 2021, the Spanish Government initiated a labor reform, agreed upon with social agents (employers and unions), despite opposition from the PP. Thanks to this new regulation, permanent contracts continue to skyrocket in the municipality of Marbella.

February Marks a New Record in Permanent Contracts

This past February saw a record with 71.85% of contracts of this type, a figure that surpasses the best of the previous year. The previous best record was in February 2023 with 71.51%, higher than March (70.84%) and May (70.41%) of the same year. These are historic figures that represent a complete change in the municipality’s labor market, well above the average in Spain.

February Closes with Over 2,500 Permanent Contracts

February ended with 2,507 permanent contracts, accounting for 71.85% of the total contracts made (3,489). This is 242 more than in the same month of 2023. Temporary employment contracts were 982, below a thousand for the second time in the entire historical series.

Andalusian Employment Service Provides Data

All this data is provided by the Andalusian Employment Service (SAE), which is dependent on the Junta de Andalucía. For comparison, during the government of Mariano Rajoy, from December 2011 to June 2018, the record for permanent contracts in Marbella was 996, which occurred in April 2017, accounting for 12% of the total. It should be remembered that, during the ratification in the Congress of Deputies, the PP voted against the labor reform and even tried to sabotage it.
