Justice Advisor José Antonio Nieto Speaks in Málaga

José Antonio Nieto, the Justice Advisor of the Andalusian Government, announced this Friday that he expects to launch the tender for the preliminary project of the Marbella Court of Justice in a few months. This statement, made in Málaga this morning, does not bring any new information as a similar announcement was made last October.

Mayor Praises the “Great Commitment”

The Mayor has praised this as a “great commitment”. Nieto was in Málaga for the “New Economy Forum”, where he discussed, among other things, the Judicial Infrastructure Plan. In front of an audience that included the Mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, he made few references to the municipality and more to others that seem to have more advanced new judicial headquarters.

Plans for the New Marbella Court of Justice

Regarding the new Court of Justice for Marbella, he only said that “I hope we can launch the tender for the preliminary project in a few months”. Towards the end of his speech, he added that “we need to get the Marbella Court of Justice up and running and we are going to do it very soon”. Therefore, there was no specific commitment in these statements, similar to those he made during a visit to the city last October.

Previous Announcements and Future Plans

At that time, the Mayor said that the Government was already working on the preliminary project to tender it in parallel with the urbanization works and improvement of access to the La Torrecilla estate. Nieto explained that they were going to “tender in parallel this preliminary project for the construction of the new headquarters, with the aim of it being ready during 2024”. Therefore, this morning he did not bring any new information, not even a deadline to have this infrastructure.

Mayor’s Enthusiasm and the Andalusian Government’s Commitment

Despite this, Muñoz has shown enthusiasm on social networks and highlighted “the great commitment” of the Andalusian Government to the municipality. During his speech at this forum, Nieto talked about using “public-public” financing for different judicial headquarters, including those in Torremolinos, Torrox, and Fuengirola.

Financing the Marbella Court of Justice

This is a formula in which the works would be paid for by the municipalities or the Provincial Council and the Government would pay a fee for using the buildings which, after 30 years, would return to the municipalities. The municipal television of Marbella has reported that this would be the chosen option to finance the Marbella Court of Justice.

The Judicial Infrastructure Plan

The Judicial Infrastructure Plan aims for the year 2030, when the Government assures that all the new headquarters would be ready, with an investment of 1.5 billion euros. In Marbella, the Mayor announced this past Thursday that she already has the project ready for access to the La Torrecilla estate and its urbanization. At the time, she said that the budget was 15 million euros, which would come from the municipal coffers even though the road is regional.
