La Joya Tops the Scoreboard in Málaga
The group La Joya has achieved the highest score in Málaga. However, there will be no representation from Marbella or San Pedro in the final of the Official Contest of Singing Groups (COAC) of the Málaga Carnival. Three groups began their participation and two managed to advance to the semi-finals, but they were unable to make the final cut.
Marbella and San Pedro Alcántara Absent from the Carnival Finals
This Saturday, February 3, the inaugural proclamation of these festivities will take place in Marbella. Despite achieving a historic third place last year, this Friday there will be no group from Marbella or San Pedro Alcántara in the final of the Málaga Carnival contest. The semi-finals concluded on Wednesday and neither of the two local groups will continue on the stage of the Cervantes Theater.
San Pedro Alcántara’s Chirigota and Marbella’s La Joya Fall Short
San Pedro Alcántara’s chirigota “María del Monte”, which came third last year with “Pa Ti To”, has been eliminated with 336.20 points. Marbella’s group “La Joya”, led by Nono Quiñones, was closer to making the cut, but with 354.90 points, it also failed to advance in its category. The group “Los refugiados”, led by Paco Parra and Javier Carmona, also participated but did not manage to reach the semi-finals.
Marbella Carnival Kicks Off
This Saturday, February 3, the Marbella Carnival begins at 9:00 p.m. at the municipal theater, with a tribute to Francisco Blanco ‘El butano’. The gold shield will also be awarded to Francisco Javier Cerván and the Venus, Nymphs and Dios Momo will be announced. Local groups ‘Mejor me callo’, ‘Este año salimos por los pelos’, ‘La joya’, ‘Los refugiados’ as well as the anthology ‘La cuadrilla’, from the gaditanos Los Carapapas, will also be performing. This year, the Marbella group contest has been revived and will take place between February 13 and 16.
