The Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital has initiated a project to enhance its Emergency Service, focusing on both infrastructure and organization. This new care protocol is designed to meet the urgent healthcare needs of patients by improving care processes.
Quirónsalud Marbella: A Leading Private Hospital in the Area
The Marbella healthcare center is the leading private hospital in the area, with an activity figure of around 52,000 appointments per year. During the Easter holiday period alone, this activity accounts for more than 30% of all consultations handled in the Emergency Service, hence the suitability of implementing this new care model.
Reorganization of the Emergency Service
The reorganization of the Emergency Service involves an internal organizational change as well as a modification of the physical spaces of the Unit. Miguel Ángel Ramírez, Medical Director, highlights the creation of two care circuits based on the severity of each patient’s condition.
Minimizing Waiting Times
The main purpose of the new organizational structure is to minimize the waiting times of those who come to the hospital for an emergency. To this end, the architectural modification has been crucial, featuring a significant expansion of the spaces dedicated to the Emergency Service and the creation of new care areas.
New Care Areas
This includes a new observation area with 12 posts (increasing from 2 to 4 beds and from 6 to 8 chairs), a respiratory isolation area, 2 nursing triages, 1 critical room, 5 medical consultations (two more than existing), and an expansion of the waiting room with a specific care space for international private patients.
Coordination Among Professionals
According to Alejandro Rodríguez, Emergency Nursing Supervisor, the coordination among all service professionals is the “key” to the new care protocol, which is designed to continue for successive high-demand care seasons. This is a multidisciplinary and coordinated care system that highlights the integration of the work scheme called Single Act.
