PSOE Spokesperson in Marbella, Isabel Pérez, Calls for Urgent Solutions for Public Health
Isabel Pérez, the spokesperson for the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) in the Marbella City Council, has called on Mayor Ángeles Muñoz to demand urgent solutions for public health in the municipality from the President of the Regional Government. Pérez has expressed concern over the constant degradation of one of the fundamental pillars of the welfare state.
Request for Support from the Mayor
Pérez has asked the mayor to show sensitivity and stand with her fellow medical professionals to stop being complicit in the destruction of public health. She finds it unacceptable to see healthcare workers protesting outside the Costa del Sol Hospital day after day. The socialist councilor has supported the protests of workers and unions against the mistreatment they are subjected to by the Regional Government.
Concerns Over Staffing and Waiting Lists at the Costa del Sol Hospital
Pérez has highlighted the reported collapse of units such as the Laboratory or Radiodiagnosis, the need for more nursing assistants and orderlies, and the general understaffing of professionals, a situation that ultimately also affects patients. She has stressed the urgent need to address the lack of staff at the Costa del Sol Hospital and to provide it with the necessary number of professionals to offer good service to the citizens. She has also emphasized the need for more doctors in primary care to prevent the overcrowding of emergency departments.
Mayor Accused of Turning Her Back on Healthcare Workers
Pérez has criticized the mayor, who had volunteered at the hospital during the pandemic, for now turning her back on healthcare workers and not fighting for them as she should be. She has urged Muñoz to prioritize the interests of the residents of Marbella and San Pedro over those of her party and to demand the public health they deserve from the Regional Government.
Long Waiting Lists at the Costa del Sol Hospital
The socialist councilor has also described the waiting lists at the Costa del Sol Hospital as dramatic, both for surgical interventions and for the first consultation with the specialist or diagnostic tests. These waiting times affect not only the citizens of Marbella but also those of the entire Western Costa del Sol.
Mayor’s Past Actions Criticized – Public Health in Marbella
Finally, Pérez has reminded that the mayor had stopped the works of the Costa del Sol Hospital in 2010 due to a confrontation with the Regional Government, causing much harm to the residents of the entire region. She has expressed hope that the new part of the hospital will be staffed with the necessary professionals, given the current shortage and the precedent of Estepona.Public Health in Marbella
