Partial Strike and Protest at Costa del Sol University Hospital in Marbella
A partial strike and protest were held this Tuesday at the Costa del Sol University Hospital in Marbella. The event was organized by the Workers’ Commissions (CCOO) to demand that the Andalusian Government pay the salaries of non-permanent employees on time. These workers are set to receive their pay with a one-month delay, primarily affecting administrative staff.
Details of the Strike and Protest
As announced earlier this month, the partial strike and protest took place on Tuesday, 13th at the Costa del Sol University Hospital in Marbella. The CCOO union organized the protests to demand that the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) pay part of its workforce on time. The claim specifically concerns non-permanent employees, approximately 200 between the hospital and its dependent centers, who will receive their January salary at the end of February.
Impact of the Delayed Payment
The employees will thus receive their salary with a one-month delay, a situation that has led to union claims. The affected employees are from the former Public Business Health Agency (APES), mainly administrative staff (external consultation counters, public attention, and appointment management), although there are also health workers.
Timing of the Strike and Protest
The partial strike took place between 11:00 and 13:00 hours, while a protest concentration also took place at 11:30 hours.
Union’s Stand on the Issue
Juan Carlos Navas, the general secretary of the Health and Sociosanitary Sectors Union of CCOO in Malaga, stated that if the situation is not resolved, they will continue with the mobilizations. He explained that the workers who will receive their pay with a one-month delay “have been on the staff for many years” but the SAS has decided to “treat them as if they were temporary”.
Union’s Criticism of the Delayed Payment
Navas criticized the unfairness and harm caused by not informing them that they would not receive their first salary this year until the end of February. “They should have negotiated and dealt with the union organizations, but they abruptly carried it out,” he added.
Union’s Demand for Change
The union leader concluded by demanding a change in this approach and pointed out that there are other workers “with the same labor personnel figure who are receiving their salary on time”.
