Beach Volleyball Competition Controversy in Marbella

A beach volleyball competition at Cable Beach in Marbella has sparked controversy. The decision by the Marbella City Council to remove the area designated for volleyball at Cable Beach and relocate it to the new facilities at El Pinillo has caused an uproar. A petition that started last Saturday has already garnered over 1,200 signatures in just four days. “We cannot allow them to steal our beach,” they say.

Parents of Beach Volleyball Players Express Outrage

The outrage continues among parents of beach volleyball players who regularly use the courts at Cable Beach in Marbella each summer, from where the City Council wants to move them. The idea of practicing this sport at the new Mediterranean Park in El Pinillo, a few meters further east, does not convince them at all.

Online Petition to Save Cable Beach

For this reason, they have started a petition through the platform “Chage.org” which already has more than 1,200 supporters in four days. The title of the petition they have started is “Save the beach volleyball beach in Marbella, the people’s beach”. They explain that Cable Beach is “a unique enclave that makes the courts the ideal place to hold provincial and Andalusian volleyball championships”.

Cable Beach: A Unique Spot for Families and Sports

Cable Beach is a place where hundreds of families from all over Andalusia come every year with their coolers, chairs and umbrellas to spend an unforgettable day enjoying sports, the beach and family. In addition, this beach is one of the widest in Marbella, considered “the people’s beach”, where birthdays, family moments are celebrated and traditionally San Juan is celebrated and moragas are made, “which will also disappear”.

Relocation to El Pinillo: An Unpopular Solution

The solution of moving to El Pinillo does not appeal to them. “It’s a new sports area where families have no place, a sports area where boys and girls would have to be alone”. “Let’s stop this. We cannot allow them to steal our beach. Help us or beach volleyball in Marbella will disappear and the people’s beach with it,” concludes the online petition.

Upcoming Beach Volleyball Meeting

The next beach volleyball meeting of Costa del Voley will take place on Saturday, May 25, at Cable Beach from the Benjamin to Amateur category.
