The Marbella golfer played at an extraordinary level throughout the four-day competition, finishing with a score of 266 strokes (-22), which allowed him to secure fifth place. He was just four strokes short of victory, which went to Italian golfer Matteo Manassero.

Hidalgo began his journey on the South African course with a good first day, finishing with 67 strokes and ending up in tenth place, thus putting himself in contention for the final victory. The Marbella golfer would step up his game on the second day of competition, finishing the course with 64 strokes (-8) to jump to third place and just two strokes off the lead.

Again, he had a good day on his third round on the South African course, signing a card of 67 strokes (-5) to fall to fourth place but still only two strokes away from victory. Therefore, Ángel Hidalgo faced the last day of competition with his chances of fighting for victory intact.

In the end, a score of 68 strokes deprived him of the title but guaranteed him an excellent fifth place in the Jonsson Workwear Open, thus marking his best result of the season. The final victory went to Italian player Matteo Manassero, who finished with 262 strokes (-26).
