Roma’s Central Defender, Dean Huijsen, Among Spain’s Most Promising Under-20 Footballers
Marbella-born footballer, Dean Huijsen, has made it to the list of the 77 most promising Spanish players under the age of 20. The list is compiled by Fútbol Draft, which each season selects the best under-20 player in national football. This time, the Roma defender is among the candidates for the win.
FC Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal is the Favourite for the Award
The top contender for the award is FC Barcelona’s winger, Lamine Yamal. Other notable names on the list include Gavi, Pau Cubarsí, and Samu Omorodion. Fútbol Draft has been awarding young talents from the Spanish football nursery since 2006 and this week announced the first cut of 77 male players and 55 female players vying for the national talent award.
Dean Huijsen, a Promising Young Talent in Spanish Football
Among the most promising under-20 footballers in Spain is young Dean Huijsen. The footballer, born in the Netherlands but raised in Marbella, is having a good season with Roma, even making it to the under-21 team. This is the second time a Marbella footballer has made it to this prestigious list since Javier Ontiveros did so in 2016, making it to the golden eleven as one of Spain’s most promising players.
Huijsen’s Rise in Roma Despite Injury
Huijsen, currently injured in Roma, has made a significant impact on the Roman team after his loan move from Juventus. However, the Marbella-born central defender, born in 2005, will not find it easy to win the best player award. Dean Huijsen, who emerged from the Costa Unida nursery, faces stiff competition from FC Barcelona’s right winger Lamine Yamal, who is the favourite to win.
Other Notable Players on the List
The list also includes players of recognized prestige such as his teammates at Barça, Gavi or Pau Cubarsí; Alavés striker Samu Omorodion or Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic. In this first cut, 77 players have been chosen; a preliminary cut on June 25 will select 55 players. The winners will be announced in September.
