Reyes Estévez Triumphs in Marbella’s Latest Half Marathon
Reyes Estévez emerged as the winner of the most recent Marbella Half Marathon. Despite lower expectations due to decreased participation in recent years, the organizers have announced the registration details for the upcoming Marbella Half Marathon. The event, scheduled for September 29, is expected to attract over a thousand athletes.
Discounts to Encourage Participation
In an effort to encourage athletes, discounts have been introduced to ensure that the cost is not a barrier. The registration period will open on March 1, with an initial discount for local athletes, who can register for 10 euros during March and April.
Registration Details and Discounts
Lisandro Vieytes, the councilor for sports, and Álvaro Lucena, the race director, unveiled these details this morning. To avail the discount, athletes must be registered in the municipality and possess an athlete’s card. From March 1 to April 15, other participants will pay 15 euros, making the discount for locals 5 euros.
Staggered Pricing for Registration
From April 16 to May 31, the price increases to 20 euros, from June 1 to August 31 it will be 25 euros, and from September 1 to 25, when registration closes, the cost will be 30 euros. Registrations made before September 8, 2024, will have the name that the registered person has put in the “Alias dorsal” section of the registration form on their bib.
Relay Category and Special Recognition for Local Runners
Regarding the Relay category, participation will cost 50 euros until August 31 and 60 euros until the end of the registration period. This year’s race will feature a special category for local runners, both male and female, who will be recognized for the first, second, and third place.
Participation and Goals for the Race
Race director, Álvaro Lucena, noted that this is the third edition of the race managed by Alpa Sport and Events. The previous two editions saw very low participation, with around 600 runners in 2022 and nearly 800 athletes in 2023. These numbers are far from the 2,000 that competed in the race before the pandemic. For this year, Lucena’s goal is “to surpass 1,000 runners this year”. He added, “We have made a very aggressive offer to promote the Half Marathon and ensure that the price is not a barrier to signing up.”
