Marbella’s Brotherhood of El Rocío Begins Pilgrimage with Floral Offering
The arrival of the cart carrying the Simpecado to the Marbella Town Hall marked the beginning of the floral offering. The Brotherhood of El Rocío from Marbella started their pilgrimage to the village of Almonte on Tuesday, to participate in a new religious festival. As is customary, the day began with a traditional mass at the Church of La Encarnación, followed by the procession of the Simpecado through the Old Town. The return is scheduled for Thursday, May 23.
Traditional Pilgrimage to Almonte Village Begins
The pilgrimage to the village of Almonte by the Marbella Brotherhood began early this morning, a traditional event that always starts at dawn. This year, one notable change was the absence of rocket launches, a feature that has always sparked controversy. The pilgrim’s mass took place at 8:30 am at the Church of La Encarnación. From there, the procession moved to the Plaza de Los Naranjos, where the Mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, made the customary floral offering at the entrance of the Town Hall.
Simpecado’s Symbolic Journey through the Old Town
The cart carrying the Simpecado, pulled by oxen and accompanied by the sound of bells, made its symbolic journey through the Old Town. After passing the Town Hall, it continued through Estación Street, Plaza de la Victoria, Pedraza, Ramón y Cajal, Miguel Cano, Duque de Ahumada, and Antonio Montero Sánchez. At the end of the route, the Simpecado was loaded up to begin the journey to the Pinares de Aznalcázar.
Marbella’s Brotherhood of El Rocío Starts Pilgrimage
The Brotherhood of El Rocío from Marbella began their pilgrimage this morning. They are expected to arrive in Villamanrique de la Condesa at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, May 15, after passing through Quema, which is scheduled for 10:15 am. The following day, Thursday, May 16, they will pass through Palacio del Rey at 1:30 pm and Puente del Ajolí at 6:30 pm.
Marbella Brotherhood’s Presentation at the Sanctuary’s Main Gate
The presentation of the Marbella Brotherhood at the Main Gate of the Sanctuary will take place on Saturday, May 18, at 8:15 pm. In the early hours of Monday, as is customary, the “jumping of the fence” will take place, followed by the procession of the White Dove. Once the celebration is over, the return journey will begin. The Marbella Brotherhood is expected to arrive back on Thursday, May 23, around 8:30 pm. During their entry into the city, Jubilee Year events will be held to obtain full indulgence.
Thanksgiving Mass at the Church of La Encarnación
Finally, on Saturday, May 25, a Thanksgiving Mass will be held at the Church of La Encarnación.
