Marbella West Health Center Still Not Operational After Two Years of Construction
The Marbella West Health Center, located on Ricardo Soriano Avenue, is still not operational after two years of construction. The new health center, which was supposed to be completed within 12 months, has been delayed due to various issues. Despite promises made by Mayor Angeles Muñoz and the PP (People’s Party) in the Junta, there is still no confirmed date for its opening.
Progress Report on the Health Center’s Construction
In October of the previous year, the mayor reported that the health center on Ricardo Soriano was 70% complete and would be ready by early 2024. However, by the given deadline, only 80% of the work had been completed. The current status of the construction and the operational date of this health infrastructure remain unknown.
Investment and Delays in the Health Center’s Construction
On June 23, 2022, the Marbella City Council announced the start of construction with an investment of 1,987,062 euros from the municipal coffers. The construction was supposed to be completed by the following summer, but it has been delayed by 22 months.
Five Years of Promises from the People’s Party
The PP has been making promises for five years. In March 2018, with the support of all groups, the Plenary requested the Junta to use the old Urban Planning building for a health center. Just before the regional elections in December 2018, the Ministry of Health requested a larger plot of at least 5,000 square meters. With the PP’s arrival in the Junta, the location on Ricardo Soriano was insisted upon.
Mayor’s Efforts and the Health Center’s Future
A few months later, the mayor insisted on funding the construction with municipal funds, a plan she had been announcing since the summer of 2019. Despite numerous announcements, approvals of items in the plenary sessions, photos, and the handover of keys by the Junta, the construction began two years ago, but the health center is still not operational. The center will be equipped with 24 consultations and various services, but the main problem is finding doctors to operate it.
