World’s Fastest Electric Boats to Gather in Marbella
Marbella is gearing up to host the E1, the Formula 1 of the sea, which will take place in Puerto Banús on June 1 and 2. This is the only venue in Spain for this competition. A dozen teams led by personalities such as tennis player Rafa Nadal will participate.
Expectation of 8,000 Visitors in the Fan Zone
The Fan Zone is expected to accommodate about 8,000 visitors over the two days. Other celebrities leading the teams include American football player Tom Brady, footballer Didier Drogba, driver Sergio “Checo” Pérez and the latest addition, actor Will Smith, who just joined a team that includes Spanish driver Lucas Ordóñez. Singer Marc Anthony will also participate and will perform the inaugural concert of the event on May 31 at Oassis Marbella Fest.
Support from Local Authorities
The event, which combines sport and tourism promotion, has the support of the Marbella City Council, the Andalusian Regional Government, and the Provincial Council of Malaga.
Details of the Race
Juan Núñez, CEO of Cívitas Puerto Banús, explained that the race will take place right in front of the port, next to the breakwater. He also mentioned that this unique and vibrant sporting event, which will be a challenge for them, is being held this year in places like Monaco, Hong Kong, Jeddah, Geneva, and Venice. On Saturday, June 1, the teams will compete in the qualifying races, and the semi-final and final will take place on Sunday.
Logistics and Infrastructure
Núñez also revealed that over 490,000 square meters of water surface will be set up for the nine teams for the competition, while 5,000 square meters on the beach will be allocated for the Acceleration Festival and the race viewing area. A Fan Zone is also planned, where about 8,000 visitors are expected over the two days, in addition to a 500 square meter VIP Hospitality area. The dry dock area will host the paddock, the television production area, and the team tent, among others, in 5,600 square meters.
Expected Economic Impact
Mayor Ángeles Muñoz highlighted the great media impact and the economic return that the event will bring to the city, with an estimated cumulative audience of over 1 billion people on social media on four platforms and more than 25 million euros.
About E1, the Electric Off Shore Formula 1
E1, the Electric Off Shore Formula 1, is a new global sport with the only electric motor authorized by the International Powerboating Union. Conceived by Alejandro Agag, son-in-law of José María Aznar, and Rodi Basso (an Italian engineer who has collaborated with NASA, Ferrari, and Red Bull Racing), the E1 Series is being held throughout 2024 in international venues. All teams will consist of a man and a woman who must compete for exactly the same time in the races. The drivers are professionals from Dakar, Trial, W Series, or Formula Ford.
