Horse Fountain Statue Removed for Restoration
The statue from the Horse Fountain was removed on Monday. The Marbella City Council has taken down the iconic sculpture from the Horse Fountain, located next to the Alameda, and it has been moved to Madrid for restoration.
Improvements to the Fountain
In addition to the statue, work will also be carried out on the fountain, both on the inner basin and the exterior, as well as on the water pumping system, which was currently shut down due to drought. The statue of the Horse Fountain was removed on Monday by the City Council, which has announced its rehabilitation today, although the cost has not been disclosed.
Modernization and Restoration
The idea is to “modernize and improve the aesthetics and efficiency” of the fountain, as well as restore the statue, which was commissioned in 1985 to the artist Amador Braojos and named “The Beauty of the Sea”. It is a central location in the city, on Ramón y Cajal Avenue and next to Enrique del Castillo Street and the Alameda.
Details of the Restoration
The inner basin of the fountain will be waterproofed and work will also be carried out on the exterior finish, as well as on the cabinet where the water pump is located. The statue, which has an internal water circuit that comes out through the horse’s mane and the woman’s hair, has been dismantled and will be moved to Madrid, where its creator will take charge of its rehabilitation while the bulk of the work is carried out.
Further Actions
The rest of the action, according to the City Council, will consist of dismantling the lighting and water pumping system; the reform of the basin, the planters and the cabinet that shelters the pump. The waterproofing of the basin and the planned planters will also be carried out, and the water pump and new lights will be installed to finish with the marble cladding, the ornamental decoration and the repositioning of the figure.
