Off-Duty Police Officer Saves Man’s Life in Marbella Shopping Centre
An off-duty officer from the National Police station in Marbella performed life-saving resuscitation maneuvers on a man who had suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest in a local shopping centre. The incident took place several months ago, but only came to light this Thursday, once the citizen had fully recovered.
Quick Response Prevents Tragedy
According to a statement from the National Police, the 061 health services acknowledged that without the officer’s intervention, the man would have died. The victim is now in good health and without any lasting effects, despite having spent a month in a coma in the hospital and undergoing a tough recovery.
Incident Details Revealed
The incident occurred last autumn in a Marbella shopping centre. The off-duty officer, stationed at the Marbella Police Station, was shopping when he heard cries for help. Upon approaching, he saw a man lying on the ground, apparently unconscious, according to the statement.
Officer’s Swift Action Saves Life
The officer quickly realized, after checking the man’s vital signs, that he was in cardiorespiratory arrest and began performing resuscitation. For 15 minutes, the officer performed life-saving maneuvers, using a Semi-Automatic External Defibrillator (DESA) provided by a nearby store.
Team Effort in Emergency Response
Another citizen, who identified herself as a nurse, and several security guards from the establishment joined the officer’s efforts. After delivering shocks with the defibrillator, they continued with the resuscitation, guided over the phone by 112 emergency personnel.
Victim Transported to Local Hospital
When the 061 medical team arrived, they stabilized and transported the critically ill man to a local hospital. The medical staff reiterated that without the officer’s intervention, the man would have died.
Victim and Officer Maintain Contact
Currently, the victim and the officer remain in touch, with the former expressing gratitude for the officer’s quick action. Despite having spent a month in a coma and having to relearn how to walk, the man is now in good health thanks to the officer’s swift response.
