Former Spanish Prime Minister and Ex-Mayor of Madrid Attend Holy Friday Event in Marbella
Former Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar and his wife, Ana Botella, the former mayor of Madrid, attended a liturgical event on Holy Friday at the Church of the Incarnation in Marbella. The event was held indoors due to the cancellation of the joint procession of the Lying Christ and the Solitude.
The Event Started at 9 PM
The liturgical event began at 9 PM and was also attended by the couple’s children. They were seated in a prominent place reserved for authorities, alongside the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, and the president of the Brotherhood Association, Francisco Gil.
Mayor Thanks Aznar for His Attendance
The mayor, through social media on Saturday, informed about Aznar’s attendance and publicly thanked him. Aznar’s presence in Marbella during holiday periods is common as he owns a house in Guadalmina.
Aznar’s Previous Visits to Marbella
Last summer, for example, Aznar attended the concert of Eros Ramazzotti at the Starlite festival, where in 2021 he attended the performance of Plácido Domingo. The former prime minister and ex-mayor are also regular attendees of the Spanish Association Against Cancer Gala, held in August.
Controversies Surrounding Aznar’s Visits
In 2020, Aznar’s arrival in Marbella sparked a major controversy during the pandemic for leaving Madrid despite all the movement restrictions in place at the time. Over ten years ago, in 2013, another controversy arose when he visited a beach in San Pedro Alcántara with three unleashed dogs, violating municipal ordinances.
