Announcement of the Fifth Edition of the Antonio Naranjo Memorial
The fifth edition of the Antonio Naranjo Memorial was announced this Tuesday. Three years after the last edition, which took place in 2021, the memorial will be held again on February 28th, the Day of Andalusia.
Changes in the Participating Teams
This time, Marbella FC, which participated in the previous four editions, will not be taking part. Instead, a triangular format has been chosen, featuring UD San Pedro, FC Marbellí, and Atlético Marbella Paraíso.
Remembering Antonio Naranjo
The fifth edition of the Antonio Naranjo Memorial, in memory of the local football historian and statistician, was presented on Tuesday afternoon in San Pedro Alcántara.
Details of the Upcoming Event
The event will take place on February 28th, a public holiday for the Day of Andalusia, with a triangular tournament at the stadium named after the honoree. The participating teams will be Unión Deportiva San Pedro from the Senior Honor Division, and two teams from the Senior Andalusian First Division, FC Marbellí and Atlético Marbella Paraíso.
Proceeds to Benefit Cudeca Foundation
The first match will kick off at 4:45 PM and the ticket price, set at 5 euros, will be donated to the Cudeca Foundation.
Representatives of the Participating Clubs
The representatives of the three clubs, Juan Manuel Blanco (San Pedro), Teo Bravo (FC Marbellí), and Alessandro Gaucci (Atlético Marbella Paraíso), were present at the announcement.
Medal of the City to be Awarded to UD San Pedro
On the morning of the event, the Medal of the City will be awarded to UD San Pedro, a club that is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Previous Editions of the Memorial
The previous four editions of this memorial, the last one in 2021, were celebrated with a match between the San Pedro team and Marbella FC.
Remembering Antonio Naranjo’s Contributions
Antonio Naranjo was a local football historian and statistician, and also the person to whom Unión Deportiva San Pedro owes its continuity, as he saved the club from disappearing in 2006. On September 17, 2016, the red and black entity named him Honorary President. He passed away on July 16, 2017.
Recap of Previous Editions
The first Antonio Naranjo Memorial took place on August 9, 2017, ending in a draw between San Pedro and Marbella. The second edition was held on August 8, 2018, with Marbella winning 0-3. The third edition took place on August 7, 2019, with Marbella winning 0-4. The fourth edition was held on August 28, 2021, and ended in a draw.
