Marbella Witnesses Fifth Shooting Incident in Over a Month
Marbella, a town on the Costa del Sol, was once again the site of a shooting incident, marking the fifth such occurrence in just over a month. The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday, 2nd April, in the Los Naranjos area of Nueva Andalucía. A 21-year-old man was critically injured and rushed to the Hospital Costa del Sol with at least two gunshot wounds.
Details of the Shooting Incident
The victim was reportedly shot in the knee and genital area shortly after midnight. Several local residents reported hearing “three or four gunshots” and promptly alerted the authorities via the 112 emergency number. The shooting allegedly involved individuals in two separate vehicles, and the police are currently investigating whether there was crossfire or if the shots were fired from only one vehicle.
Police Response and Investigation
The shooting was still ongoing when the first police patrol arrived at the scene. However, the arrival of the police prompted the individuals involved to flee. This marks the third shooting incident in Marbella in just over a month where a person has been injured and taken to the hospital. The majority of these incidents have occurred in the Nueva Andalucía area.
Previous Shooting Incidents
The last similar incident took place in the early hours of Saturday, 16th March, in the Puerto Banús area. The victim was outside a shop when the shooting occurred, involving occupants of several vehicles. The victim was taken to the Hospital Clínico in Malaga for treatment.
Continued Violence in Nueva Andalucía
On 11th March, two individuals on a motorbike fired several shots in the middle of a street in Nueva Andalucía. Although no one was hit, several bullets struck the window of a restaurant. Police officers found about ten shell casings at the scene.
Earlier Incidents and Arrests
In a previous incident, another young man was injured after being shot twice on a Marbella street shortly after 11pm on Saturday, 10th February, again in the Nueva Andalucía area. The victim, of Nordic origin, was shot in the arm and leg. National Police officers arrested three individuals for their alleged involvement in the incident, which reportedly involved Swedish gangs.
Unconfirmed Shooting Incident
Only two days after the aforementioned incident, local residents reported hearing gunshots in the same street. However, no cartridge cases were found at the scene, leaving the authorities unable to confirm the shooting.
