Marbella’s ‘Mr Marbella’ Makes TV Debut
In a surprising turn of events, a local Marbella resident, known affectionately as ‘Mr Marbella’, has made his television debut. Despite his self-deprecating claim of having a face for radio, his bald and bearded features have been broadcast to the unsuspecting viewing public of Marbella and the UK.
From Drama Workshop to TV Screen
The journey to the small screen began with an unsuccessful attempt at studying acting. A seasoned professional conducting a drama workshop once told him that good roles come later in life, not through talent, but through perseverance. This advice seems to have held true for ‘Mr Marbella’, whose recent appearances on TV are a testament to his enduring presence in Marbella.
A Long-Standing Marbella Resident
Having lived in Marbella for over 40 years, and as a full-time resident since 1985, ‘Mr Marbella’ is considered an expert on the ins and outs of life in the city. His first TV appearance was on a programme on Marbella TV, hosted by his friend Nicole, whom he has known since their days working in Marbella’s biggest disco in the 80s, ‘Ipanema Palace’.
From ‘Mr Marbella’ to ‘Playgrounds of the Rich and Famous’
His second TV appearance was for a Channel 5 series ‘Playgrounds of the Rich and Famous’, which wanted to feature Marbella. Despite the teasing from his friends, the programme was shot over four days in various locations in Marbella, including Puente Romano, Old Town and La Zagaletta.
Unexpected Broadcast and Reaction
After filming in July, ‘Mr Marbella’ heard nothing more about the episode until it was unexpectedly broadcast one Sunday evening. The following morning, his mobile was flooded with messages from friends in the UK, who were surprised to see him on their screens.
Marbella’s Positive Image and ‘Mr Marbella’s’ Newfound Celebrity
Despite the surprise, the programme did a good job of sending a positive image of Marbella. The town looked stunning on film, as it always does. ‘Mr Marbella’ has taken his newfound celebrity in stride, joking about demanding luxury amenities before writing his column for the Olive Press.
