Marbella Witnesses Fifth Shooting in Over a Month
Marbella was once again the backdrop for a shooting incident, marking the fifth such occurrence in just over a month. The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Nueva Andalucía. Prior to the shooting, a struggle was reported where two individuals attempted to steal a bag from another person, as per the CCTV footage reviewed by SUR.
Police Investigation Underway
Authorities are currently working to identify the individuals involved in the incident and determine the contents of the bag, which is suspected to contain either money or drugs. The altercation was only disrupted by the sound of gunfire, after which the three suspects fled in two separate vehicles. Several local residents alerted the authorities by calling the 112 emergency number.
Details of the Shooting Incident
The shooting reportedly involved individuals in two vehicles. The National Police are investigating whether there was an exchange of gunfire or if the shots were fired from only one vehicle. The arrival of the first patrol car on the scene coincided with ongoing gunfire, but the police presence caused the suspects to flee.
Victim Rushed to Hospital
The incident resulted in a 21-year-old man being taken to Hospital Costa del Sol in Malaga with two gunshot wounds, one in the knee and another in his genital area. This marks the fifth shooting incident in Marbella in just over a month and the third where a victim has been injured and taken to hospital. The majority of these incidents have taken place in the Nueva Andalucía area.
Five Arrests Made in Connection with Shootings
The National Police have already made progress in solving two of the incidents that have occurred since February. On 2 April, two individuals were arrested for allegedly firing at a restaurant in Nueva Andalucía on 11 March. The suspects reportedly fired at least 15 shots but did not injure anyone. They are believed to be connected to organized crime and have been remanded in custody.
Arrests Linked to Previous Shootings
Approximately two weeks ago, three other individuals were arrested in connection with the first of the five shootings, which occurred in Nueva Andalucía on 10 February. A young Swedish man was injured in this incident after being shot in the arm and leg. Investigators believe this was a score-settling incident between rival Swedish gangs. The suspects have been charged with attempted double murder and two of them have been remanded in custody.
