Marbella Resident Fined for Illegal Tree Felling

In a recent development, the mayor of Marbella, Angeles Muñoz, has imposed a fine of €1,501 on a resident for illegally felling four trees. The foreign homeowner was penalized in early August for removing trees without a municipal license on Calle Alcala in Nueva Andalucia.

Replacement of Felled Trees Mandatory

The unidentified offender is also required to replace the trees he cut down. He must plant sixteen coniferous or hardwood trees, which will cost him an additional €4,800. This amount must be deposited with the Marbella City Council’s treasury department.

Penalty Under Article 29 of the Ordinance

This penalty is in accordance with article 29 of the Ordinance that regulates the use and protection of green areas and trees. The law stipulates that anyone who violates it must replace four times the original number of felled trees.

Two-Month Deadline for Completion of Work

The offender has been given a two-month deadline to complete all the work. The news of the penalty has sparked interest among critics of the Marbella council. They argue that the authority itself has been involved in excessive tree felling in recent years, including the remodeling of Avenida de Trapiche.
