Minute of Silence Held in Marbella for Fallen Civil Guards
This morning, a minute of silence was observed at the door of the Marbella City Hall. Marbella joined the minute of silence called by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) on Monday, in memory of two civil guards who were killed in the line of duty in Barbate, after being run over by a drug traffickers’ boat. The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, members of the government team, and councilors from PSOE and Vox were present.
Event Held at City Hall to Show Solidarity
The event took place at the door of the City Hall, in the Plaza de Los Naranjos, at 12:00 hours, to show solidarity with the deceased agents who were performing tasks against drug trafficking. Mayor Ángeles Muñoz, who did not hesitate to make political criticisms during this moment of grief, was present.
Mayor Criticizes Government’s Response to Drug Trafficking
The mayor, who has family members prosecuted by the National Court as alleged drug traffickers, lashed out at the government for, according to her, not allowing civil guard agents to attend the minute of silence. She also criticized the “lack of resources” in the fight against these types of criminal organizations.
Other Government Members and Security Forces Attend the Event
Other members of the government team and various trusted positions, as well as councilors from PSOE and Vox, attended the event. Members of other security forces, such as the National Police Commissioner, José Manuel Rando, firefighters, Civil Protection, and residents of the city, were also present.
Calls for Resignation of Interior Minister
After the minute of silence, cheers were heard for the Civil Guard and some shouts of “Marlaska resignation”, referring to the Interior Minister. Shouts of “Marlaska resignation” and cheers for the Civil Guard were heard during the minute of silence in Sol for agents killed in Barbate last Friday when their boat was run over by a drug traffickers’ boat.
